The biblical and theological foundations section of this paper is an attempt to show how God has demonstrated a preference for the poor and the oppressed and how the urban church is called to do the same in its ministry. These two approaches are so intertwined  and interrelated that both are needed if one is to answer the most pressing question of our time -- can the human race survive?
