The project participants attended two six-hour training events. The first event concentrated on the role of mentoring and the second on acquiring a basic understanding of interpresonal relationship skills. The project director recruited Baptist leaders from churches in the Lamar and Lebanon Baptist Associations currently supporting the Baptist Student Union. He developed the teaching material, a fill-in-the-blank notebook, a pre-test/post-test, and a covenant response sheet. The project involved enlisting 11 men from the church to participate in the project. The men were equipped using teaching sessions taught by the project director over the course of two weekend retreats. During the six weeks between the two retreats, the men participated in weekly community group meetings with the project director. The strategy was then to be presented to members of Capshaw Baptist Church (CBC) for consideration for adoption. The project was to lead a selected group of members in the development of a strategy that would serve as a ministry plan to address the emotional and spiritual needs of families suffering from chemical addictions in CBC. The team was to utilize selected principles from Aubrey Malphurs' process of advanced strategic planning. Research for the project centered upon the discovery of available resources directed toward the family member of the addicted person. The student researched the availability of existing local church ministries or programs for family members of addicted persons, and Christian-based addiction recovery programs in the state that touched on the family members' need in the recovery process. This facilitation was accomplished by better understanding of the hope and comfort given in the Scriptures.
