A biblical metaphor emerges: a journey from Egypt through Wilderness to Promised Land. Double binds occur when one is internally conflicted and not able to turn any direction without negative consequences.  For episcope' one double bind is absence of a shared authority.  Another is the presence of a divided constituency.  The third is the absence of a sense of God or the holy purpose for the work.
