Chaplains need to recognize that families are the most crisis-oriented institutions in our society. People are more likely to be experiencing problems and crises in their families than on city streets. By supporting grieving adults, churches can help children deal with grief in a manner which can alleviate further distress.  The project evaluates the theological meaning of death and surveys psychological studies on the impact of death.  It reviews the means of responding to grieving children.  Special attention is focused on how churches can help through pastoral care by clergy and lay helpers, the funeral service, and Christian education.
