The author attempted to engage four churches in two communities to become trained to begin establishing churches with the necessary tools to help their congregations and communities. This project concluded that it is possible for any church with proper training and guidance to be empowered to assist ex-offenders in filing a petition for expungement. Poverty, food and housing insecurity, illiteracy and rampant violence are just some of the factors that negatively impact the academic performance of the children who live in under resourced urban areas. Churches can play a vital role in improving the holistic health of the children in those communities by developing effective after-school programs with the assistance of strategic partners. Theresearcher proposes that perichoresis and an understanding of God as community offers a lens to understand the needs of clergy. This need creates a space for the clergy person to live into their own Christian discipleship.
