Gilligan's research pointed out that normative theories of development matured through their relationships.  This project thesis develops a perspective on relationship drawn from theories in the fields of psychology, theology, and faith development.  Research data consisted of twelve interviews with women who were asked to describe themselves, their relationships, and their faith. Elderly Jewish people were interviewed to ascertain their coping with bereavement and to see whether there is any correlation between their religious practices and their ablilty to cope with loss. Simultaneously, bereavement support groups were organized for the elderly and were co-counseled by a rabbi and social worker from the Jewish family service.
