Employing conversational, semistructured interviews and a demographic questionnaire, the project finds two primary sources of stress: feelings of powerlessness in the appointment process and economic entrapment in the wife's career. A qualitative research methodology was used to interview twelve women who have been clients in pastoral counseling.  The findings demonstrate that pastoral counseling does facilitate growth in women's faith lives when the process is sensitive to women's unique experience of themselves, of their relationships, and of their God. Needs identified were depression, fear, anxiety, loneliness, anger, guilt and lack of belief after death. The paradoxical needs of maintaining continuity and adjusting to loss are assisted by religious beliefs and spiritual practices including the experience of some 'transcendent moment.'  The fact of organ donation and possibility of being in touch with recipients helped give meaning to and palliate the loss. A design for a continuing education workshop for nursing home administrators was developed, tested, and evaluated. The author realized that his ministry could be significantly hampered because it lacked pertinent developmental understanding of his parishioners.  The project's process involved three primary components: individual interviews with subsequent Fowlerian interpretations, a group evaluative meeting, and a concluding questionnaire. The project took place within a congregation in the United Church of Canada and involved 36 session members who were responsible with the minister for the congregation's spiritual oversight. Methodology included a survey of AAPC training centers and ten process-oriented sessions based on representative feminist theorists.  The central learning activity was genogram groups in which participants' shared family of origin experiences of women's issues. Elderly Jewish people were interviewed to ascertain their coping with bereavement and to see whether there is any correlation between their religious practices and their ablilty to cope with loss. Simultaneously, bereavement support groups were organized for the elderly and were co-counseled by a rabbi and social worker from the Jewish family service.
