The images of God are discussed in light of the early history of this movement.  Traditional criticism of this movement finds it superficial and a means of control used by threatened overlords. Women clergy are more likely to address the issue because of specialized training in graduate courses, conferences, workshops, or seminars on domestic violence. Participants in 12-step programs register a score significantly higher statistically on representations of God as Loving than do those in Rational Recovery. Participants in Rational Recovery and other nonspiritual groups tend to score significantly higher on representations of God as Wrathful. The project conducts a quantitative and qualitative evaluation with 30 volunteers.  Pre-test and post-test comparisons analyzed significant differences in attitude, knowledge, and behavior in program participants and a control group. A survey was developed to score degree of incorporation and assess the effectiveness of various programs through which new members could become incorporated.  Results were crosstabulated by gender, age, and scored degree of incorporation.  Analysis was done by comparing the results of members who joined by profession of faith, transferred from other United Methodist congregations, transferred from other denominations, and associate/affiliate membership. The study, through the use of a variety of instruments, examines adjustments, critical incidents and surprises experienced by new pastors and how these affect their competency to be effective leaders.  The study makes a number of suggestions to future graduates and to parishes, seminaries, judicatories (diocese and archdiocese) to assist them in making this adjustment and transition. Five group of people, including samples of vulnerable populations such as military veterans and prisoners, completed this inventory.  Two better-known spirituality instruments were included in the test battery for comparison with the new instrument.  Significant differences were found among the various demographic groups using the new spirituality inventory.  High correlations were also established between this new instrument and the two validated instruments. The sample consisted of 280 Catholic lay women ranging in age from 18 to 60+ years who currently serve the Church in some capacity in the Diocese of Burlington, Vermont. Response data to questionnaires and interviews are reported by descriptive statistics, frequency distributions, and cross tabulations including chi-square tests for variable independence.  These findings confirmed the original hypotheses except equal representation.
