Inner healing, healthy sexuality, and spiritual growth require that men resolve inner conflicts resulting from fear of intimacy and mutuality in relationships, anger and abuse of power and persons, and contemporary male role expectations. This project proposes that the local church should be the primary setting for this work in the lives of men of faith. Research of current literature and resources identified critical issues for male sexuality and masculine spirituality. Workshop sessions addressed several of these issues in three local church retreats for men. In today's economy a full-time priest serving one altar places severe demands on these congregations. As small churches over-invest financially in clergy deployment they also over-invest emotionally. An atmosphere is created where clergy are expected to over-function to match the high level of investment. The stresses caused by this phenomena are causing clergy 'burn-out' while these small cures are becoming harder to fill. Some churches today are experiencing decline which can be partly ascribed to the unresolved conflicts within the church. When conflict does occur, lay and clergy leaders do not have the training to deal with conflict and therefore react quickly and ineffectively. The project presents a case study in which one church in conflict participated in the study and educational events which taught some basic components of conflict management: conflict occurs in God's family; conflict can be a positive influence and opportunity for renewal; and, conflict signals a brokenness in relationship which needs to be reconciled just as Christ reconciled the world to himself. The conclusion drawn from this project is that with training and education, people's ideas about anger and conflict can change, thereby facilitating a constructive conflict management process."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717413209505792,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:17:53.767Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:02:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:23:17Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"593ac6f4-b20d-484d-a697-a27c88f5de4e","accessControl_ssim":["24c4de01-54c3-4143-9ab0-600b3f76b2ba"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Power, authority and spiritual maturity: women clergy serving congregations as rectors or vicars in the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:02:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:44:59Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7980eaf5-30d6-493d-ace0-c0e13f4a6ab2"],"hasLease_ssim":["b190a46e-d55c-4845-b9a1-90ebbd2a8859"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Carroll Saussy"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Surveys, both oral and written, introduce and evaluate levels of awareness of codependency traits before and after the sermon series."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718926064549888,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:41:56.538Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:45:54Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:28:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"013baa28-3c50-46a8-8fbd-b6f5f779e39f","accessControl_ssim":["5ecbd644-cb52-4f03-9bb7-7fd5f3add45d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The pastoral counseling center: a resource for ministry in the parish"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:45:53Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:09:09Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8b348ca2-d8a4-41d7-9246-e6468d433574"],"hasLease_ssim":["27510e07-48be-429c-8a0e-a8174020240a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Carroll Saussy","Gail Unterberger"],"year_tesim":["1990"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The method of study was to develop and implement a seminar for pastors serving in the local parish. Initially consisting of four core segments (crisis intervention, brief pastoral counseling, daily relationships with parishioners, and the pastor's own self-understanding) the content of the seminar was significantly adapted based on preliminary interviews with 130 pastors, 5 seminary professors, and 15 staff members of PC\u0026CC of Greater Washington. The conclusion reached in the study is the need to address the issues of the pastor's needs as a person and his/her relationship to difficult church members."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718059147001856,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:28:09.781Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:43:15Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:07:38Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e2878aa2-3f8b-473b-b6f7-3918bc742f47","accessControl_ssim":["cabba71f-d7c2-4363-95a2-f323bf2c9844"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A model for ministry to clergy alcoholics for church judicatory personnel"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:43:14Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:36:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7d74b3ec-efba-43e2-8140-aceddd93da46"],"hasLease_ssim":["605c50b0-ce45-4a80-837a-1526b1e1f7c4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Carroll Saussy"],"year_tesim":["1988"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Church judicatory personnel too frequently respond as if alcoholism is a matter of will and moral weakness. This posture impedes recovery and contributes to the downward spiral of the clergy alcoholic and his or her family. The project offers a model for ministry which helps church judicatory personnel and local church clergy persons become actively involved in the recovery of clergy alcoholics. The model incorporates four specific issues related to recovery: identification, intervention, treatment, and co-dependency. The pervasive nature of the disease includes the co-dependency of the alcoholic's entire family. This document contributes a consultation which is designed to enlighten judicatory personnel and other clergy who are concerned both with the recovery of clergy alcoholic and with his or her return to effective ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720543586353152,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:07:39.127Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:12:18Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:08:25Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7b895351-9add-48a7-a3f7-c79de05592fb","accessControl_ssim":["985ca671-df0e-4b63-a37d-d88e8eed16ea"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Implications of the gospel of Luke for frail older persons and older persons who are anxious regarding future frailty"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:12:17Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:46:25Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7f4b8481-2c86-4c40-967f-0ab50cf90c65"],"hasLease_ssim":["f5ed5333-a9dc-4369-a047-d8c06f1e7a0b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Carroll Saussy"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Thomas Josephine Lawler"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Aging--Psychological aspects","Church work with older people","Bible. It begins with background information regarding population statistics, physical, psychological, behavioral and spiritual characteristics and living situations of older persons. The author reviews sections of Luke and suggests insights regarding spiritual meanings of the texts for the two populations. She reports on 'Spirituality and Aging' projects with older persons from each population. She responds to the questions regarding spiritual implications of the characteristics of the two populations. She finds that Scripture is meaningful to the two populations and that they benefit from projects like those she develops. The author offers her reflections as a prelude to a spirituality of aging, as insights for ministers and older persons and as encouragement to older persons."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716818459295744,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:08:26.569Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
