To test this idea of community, we conducted leadership training to handle every member should they decide to join one. Seven new leaders and apprentices along with a host family carried the load of creating our desired result of connecting our church membership into small groups. There is a tremendous need for the church to care for its members and reach out with the love of Christ.  Small groups play a strategic role in faciliating life transformation and care for those in need.  At Parkview Church in Iowa City, IA, located next to the University of Iowa, I provided a ten-week class designed to equip experienced small group leaders for caring ministries.  As a leader and facilitator, I envisioned and equipped small group leaders to care for those working through loneliness, depression, worry, cancer, divorce, grief and loss, and hospitalization.  The results of this class were noteworthy.
