Initially a survey tool was sent to 70 parish teams across the US. The questionnaire asked for information to study the make-up of a team, while asking each person to define team ministry, the strengths and weaknesses of this ministry and several questions asking about the group's interaction associated with decision-making, conflicts, power and authority.  The research shows that teams define themselves differently.  Yet all groups agreed that much dialogue and intense work is needed if they are to become a team.  The more successful teams allowed room for individual differences, encouraged group interaction and used skills to help them deal with conflicts.  Commitment to group dynamics is essential for a staff to become a more cohesive group.
