It explores use of narrative theory as a pedagogical approach, a model for theological reflection, and a method for facilitation of group process.  It explores how the framework of narrative and social construction enhances interest generated learning that is technical, practical, and emancipatory (Mezirow's Transformational Learning Theory); learning in relation to thinking, feeling, and behaving (Corey's Group Process Theory); and theological reflection (Tillich and Liberation theorists). The Service of Remembrance and Consecration provides an avenue for the staff and residents to mourn and to prepare for a new resident's arrival.  The Welcoming Ceremony facilitates the second phase of the transition in which a new resident becomes part of the nursing home community.
