The author researched biblical texts, church history and contemporary evidence in order to examine the relationship between revival and preaching Scripture. A series of twelve sermons and interaction with a focus group in the author's church formed the immediate context in which the project was carried out. This project builds on the work of John Piper, which connects preaching to worship, understanding preaching as 'expository exultation.'  The project provides a biblical justification for this connection, establishes a set of hermeneutical values for building God-centered sermons, and describes a model for producing messages based on those values.  The project includes a summary of two surveys of preachers, and the author's interview with Piper. The next generation of preachers are challenged to develop sermons that spiritually impact our contemporary audiences.  A brief comparison of the Postmodern and Enlightenment eras is followed by communication principles and guidelines regarding clarity and relevancy.  Selected Greek terms referring to the act of preaching and New Testament 'sermons' will provide insight into developing clear and relevant sermons. The preacher who carefully and logically studies the vernacular text can produce effective biblical expositions even when the original languages cannot be consulted or effectively used.  This philosophy and methodology was taught and practiced in the Baptist Theological College of Sao Paulo, Brazil, for more than ten years.
