The author researched biblical texts, church history and contemporary evidence in order to examine the relationship between revival and preaching Scripture. A series of twelve sermons and interaction with a focus group in the author's church formed the immediate context in which the project was carried out. The church does not consistently and devotedly follow the Lord.  Revival is thus a corrective step on God's part. The renewal conditions of 2 Chr 7:14--humility, prayer, seeking God, and repentance can be applied to Christians today.  The concept of revival was studied in a small group setting.  The conditions of revival in 2 Chr 7:14 were examined in a series of sermons.  The study and messages resulted in a clearer perspective on the need for and nature of revival. Revival is defined and the need for it is considered from current literature and information gathered from a survey of 343 pastors in the city. revival in the Scripture is studied, concluding that the context and content of 2 Chr 7:14 is its core. ten characteristics of biblical revival are identified and traced through the Scripture and five counterparts in history.
