The primary purpose of this project is not to argue the pros and cons of one method over another, but to gain ownership of discipleship principles by the leadership team of the church.  The project consists of twelve lesson plans developed around the church's ministry values.  The lessons were taught to the board of elders and a pilot group. Biblical principles of discipleship are presented from two main sources: The Master Plan of Evangelism by Robert Coleman, and Jesus Christ Disciple Maker by Bill Hull. The historical background and theological rationale for confirmation is presented, as well as an analysis of the physical, cognitive, emotional, social, moral, and faith development of thirteen- and fourteen-year olds. Interviews were conducted with representatives of five Lutheran churches with unique confirmation programs. The goal is not to isolate the therapeutic benefits of the spiritual disciplines, but to grow in godliness.  Doctoral classes and library research were combined to create an eight-session class which focused first on intimacy and spiritual intimacy.  The remaining six sessions dealt with the spiritual disciplines of the Word, meditative prayer, simplicity, forgiveness, service and worship. Evaluations indicated not only an improved understanding of financial stewardship, but also increased
