Chapter 1 identifies a problem in ministry of those who profess faith in Christ but who lack sustained affection for Him.  Chapter 2 is a select Biblical Theology of conversion from the New Testament.  Chapter 3 is a select history of American gospel preaching focusing on the way in which the gospel has been proclaimed.  Chapter 4 is a synthetic summary of regeneration and conversion.  Chapter 5 reflects upon the class experience of the learners. The author examines four 'turning points' (the First and Second Great Awakenings, the Businessmen's Revival of 1857-58 and mid-twentieth century evangelism) in American religious history and discusses the relationship between spiritual revival and cultural engagement during periods of awakening.
