After presenting Biblical, historical, theological and psychological rationales for clown ministry, the work describes the spiritual journey of the 'clown of faith.'  In subsequent pages there are helpful descriptions of clown 'hardware' (make-up, costumes, props, etc.).  The principal part of the guidebook is found in chapters five through nine which describe different 'levels' of clown ministry.  These increasingly demanding applications move through special event clowning, a nursing home model, liturgical applications, clinician modes and finally, the clown as prophet. A handbook was produced which includes samples of the Agape and general and specific guidelines for its practice in congregations and family units.  The study begins with a literature survey and then moves into a description of field research of contemporary practice in the USA, British Isles, Europe and Australasia.
