It is shown that missionary zeal would not be undermined if we hold that God could accept these, and that stronger motivation can come from the love of Christ and the command of Christ. The course developed through the use of library research and unpublished materials, and in consultation with mission-minded church leaders, missionaries, Nigerians familar with ETSI, faculty colleagues at ETSI, the president of ECWA, and a Christian education expert with years of service in Nigeria. First, the biblical and historical context which impelled the Methodists to mission is surveyed.  Then a critical examination is made of the theology of missionary motivation of Wesley and some of his followers. Finally, the essential elements for the construction of a theology of missionary motivation are presented.
