A process guided by pastoral care conversations invited parishioners to acknowledge their raw feelings, explore their sources of pain, wrestle with faith practices and open to healing experiences. The hermeneutical approach to this project was based in narrative. Various research tools were used to aid this congregation to connect with the wider story of the church including: focus groups, surveys, semi-structured interviews, and feedback forms. In the context of 'deep listening,' conversation was an effective and inclusive leadership approach to healing this conflicted conversation and cultivating within them the capacity to discern a shared sense of mission and vision. In addition, the project worked with seminarians to determine how to establish a successful Christian education program and to be able to evaluate their parishes/classroom in order to determine the dynamic of what forms of education work best and are the most effective. Such churches often become stuck in a cycle of bad relationships with pastors, which is triangulated into conflicted relationships between the members of the congregation. This project describes the two-year pilgrimage of healing for 'Church of the Warm Heart.' Four factors were primary instruments for healing. The congregation made a choice to heal. A process addressed conflict, grief and shame.
