Over a six week period the author explored the retirement experiences of nine retired clergy. The design of the sessions included the components of Groome's shared Christian praxis. A continuous assessment method was used to track the spiritual needs of clergy identified in the sessions. The author concluded that retired clergy need the support of the church during the developmental transition into retirement. The thesis of this project is that the shared praxis approach can be a catalyst for congregational leaders to discern God's will. During an eight-week workshop based on the shared praxis approach, congregational leaders prayed, read scripture, meditated,and discussed what it meant to seek the kingdom of God in the hope of discerning God's will for the congregation's corporate mission and direction. Spiritual formation requires both an intentional environment and a place in the seminary curriculum.  The methodology entailed creating a dialogue between the seminarians' experiences in the seminary community, the Christian tradition, and a cultural resource, self psychology, to propose a concrete pastoral action. The hypothesis was that CPE would be able to provide an adequate method of pastoral training and theological reflection for urban ministry. An urban CPE program was developed at the Oklahoma Baptist School of Religion in North Tulsa in order to train and certify ministers as chaplains in various community-based organizations. The students reported developing essential knowledge and skills necessary for effective urban ministry.
