The method of study is quantitative with particular focus on performance, attitude, observational and census data. The declining numbers of candidates to officership, in particular in Sweden, requires this study of the reasons behind the diminishing attraction to this ministry: preparation at the Army training college; subjects, teaching methods, officers' working conditions.
