The methodology of the project included the development and teaching of a course on the theology and practice of preaching, a period of participant implementation, and interviews of participants in the study toward an evaluation of the project. Participant response showed a greater or lesser benefit depending on willingness and ability to apply the learnings. The paper reviews the purpose of church records, the nature of the church and church membership, principles of stewardship, and the responsible use of confidential information and shows how they apply to church records.  Chapter four provides a brief overview of the history of computers and parish administration software utilized by Lutheran congregations. The 'mediating view' best preserves the uniqueness of the pastoral office while at the same time allowing for ministers, ordained and unordained, generalist and specialist, to share the office. A process was developed involving education on the subject of Christian preaching, study groups and survey instruments to gain congregational input prior to preaching, and an evaluative method to be used during and following a sermon.  The process was then initiated and carried out in a congregational setting.
