Rural churches long for a former 'golden age;' such longing impedes their becoming vital churches today.  Exilic prophets spoke to the grief of the Exile and speak to today's rural churches in exile.  Rural churches can find new identity through grief counseling techniques.  The project applied grief counseling methods to eight declining rural churches.  The project demonstrates that grief is part of rural churches and grief counseling leads to new identity and renewed vitality. Reconciliation is a central biblical/theological motif, providing a relational conceptualization of the work of Christ and describing God's intervention into the human situation to overcome enmity and restructure actual relationships of persons to God, themselves and one another.  The church's ministry is one of announcing and demonstrating God's reconciling work in Christ, and of participating in the restructuring of human community in its own life and in ministries in the world. Pastoral ministry is an office of accountable public leadership involving three main responsiblities: labor in Word and doctrine, facilitation of the faith-development of the members, and leadership of the ministries of the church.  The chapters on conflict and the clusters of denominational current opinion provide the additional foundation for the develepment of a model for the pastor's role as an agent of reconciliation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715442300813312,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:46:34.162Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":5,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"David A Henry","hits":1,"label":"David A Henry"},{"value":"John M Schaeffer","hits":1,"label":"John M Schaeffer"},{"value":"Lee A Hicks","hits":1,"label":"Lee A Hicks"},{"value":"Ralph David Mitchell","hits":1,"label":"Ralph David Mitchell"},{"value":"Richard H Skelley","hits":1,"label":"Richard H Skelley"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[{"value":"Reconciliation (Theology)","hits":1,"label":"Reconciliation (Theology)"},{"value":"United Presbyterian Church","hits":1,"label":"United Presbyterian Church"}],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Assimilation (Sociology)","hits":1,"label":"Assimilation (Sociology)"},{"value":"Christian stewardship","hits":1,"label":"Christian stewardship"},{"value":"Church controversies","hits":1,"label":"Church controversies"},{"value":"Church membership","hits":1,"label":"Church membership"},{"value":"Church renewal","hits":1,"label":"Church renewal"},{"value":"Clergy--Office","hits":1,"label":"Clergy--Office"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":5,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"San Francisco Theological Seminary","hits":5,"label":"San Francisco Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":5,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"1982","hits":1,"label":"1982"},{"value":"1984","hits":1,"label":"1984"},{"value":"1987","hits":1,"label":"1987"},{"value":"1988","hits":1,"label":"1988"},{"value":"1992","hits":1,"label":"1992"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"San Francisco Theological Seminary","hits":5,"label":"San Francisco Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":5,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"San Francisco Theological Seminary","hits":5,"label":"San Francisco Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":5,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":5,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
