The method used is a case study of Memorial United Methodist Church, a congregation which committed itself to changing its racial composition.  The case study provides implications for other congregations attempting a similar re-creation as well as suggestions for various levels of the United Methodist connectional system. The author found that these congregations that developed a multicultural identity intentionally embraced racial, ethnic, and cultural differences in congregational life.
