Three primary servanthood roles for deacons emerge in this study: worship, fellowship, and prayer. A deacon's role is not narrowly liturgical, but nonliturgical roles are developing more slowly. As these deacons respond to their servanthood tasks, their stories illuminate the diaconate's influence on their faith and on the life of the congregation.
