The project employed four key groups including a Rediscovering Your Spiritual Gifts class, Search Groups in preparation for a 'Weekend of Discovery,' a 'Weekend of Discovery' renewal program, and a Disciple Bible Study.  The project conducted interviews with 34 church members using 21 questions. Letter-oriented, propositional expression has dominated the mainline Protestant approach. Christians involved in the arts will bring new life through those modalities that are more metaphorical and intuitive--particularly story and visual imagery.  The Arts Festival at Foundry United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia, provides an occasion for enriching experiences in these areas. In its place we find a subjective, enculturated 'gospel,' clinging to the paradigms of the Second Great Awakening and lacking epistemological power to generate effective evangelism.  A fresh appropriation of Wesley's understanding of evangelism provides a critical means to evaluate current choices and to generate a model of narrative catechesis.
