Zion was able to move from a struggling single cell, one-day-a-week church to the vibrant and vivacious multi-ministry church, serving and honoring God through sharing and caring ministries every day of the week.  The sermons, workshops, conferences, gift assessment, and Bible studies were tools that aided the transformation. Research led the writer to establish that there is limited to no recorded information as to how a religiously-based organization would go about setting up a religiously-based teacher's college and theological seminary. To answer this, a six-month project involving teaching, preaching, spiritual formation, study and discussion was undertaken to help the congregation learn more about their Wesleyan heritage and reclaim relevant portions of it. Surveys at the beginning and end of the project were used to measure learning growth. A sermon series, a small group experience, and other awareness opportunities were utilized. The Gospel Wagon is an evangelistic tool that combines witnessing and peace. First, sanctification is reviewed within Wesley's Way of Salvation. Next, the impact of the nineteenth century's holiness movement on sanctification is examined. Several lay people and clergy were interviewed to determine what contemporary United Methodists know about sanctification. Then eleven lay people participated in a five-week project, studying Wesley's experiential theology. Some of the clergy and all the laity that participated had been on a 'Walk to Emmaus.' The study proved that there was a positive effect on the United Methodist congregations. Research consisted of a critical analysis of current candidate interviews, documents used to prepare interviews, and three existing immersion models. The author developed a new component proposing poverty-specific interview questions and rural, urban and local context immersions during the probationary period. From this, a teaching module was developed that served as a catalyst to inspire children to acquire attitudes changes that lead to positive conflict resolution. The project incorporates the virtues of the fruits of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) and the principles of Kwanzaa which served as the foundation of the project. Seventy-five percent of the pilot group made a positive change toward shalom. This question is the driving force behind this project and can be divided into three distinct components. The first component deals with the pastor as leader. The pastor above any other person should be the 'spiritual influencer' within the local church. The second component deals with the overall spiritual formation of the congregation. The third component deals with the spiritual development of elementary school-aged children. To address the third component, without giving adequate attention to the first two, would be a futile attempt at fixing a problem in our church that is deep and multi-faceted.
