Anger, itself, is not necessarily a negative characteristic. In fact, when managed properly, anger can be healthy; when mismanaged anger can be destructive. Historically, the Black church and the Black family have been the filtering systems which assisted blacks to develop methods and learn to effectively deal with dysfunctional elements in the total society. However, with the numerous changes in the total social order, the Black family and the Black church have discovered that counteracting these destructive forces has become very complicated. Today and probably in the future these and other complications will require a new or corrected paradigm if we are to rescue our youth and equip them with the instruments necessary for quality survival and constructive living."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799719606430990336,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:52:45.386Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:36:12Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:58:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b392ba9c-4a4b-421d-988b-ab8c4a0b37fd","accessControl_ssim":["1550f1f4-4baa-490e-80ed-57581465107f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Salvation and liturgy: an Advent and Christmas Eve project"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:36:11Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:19:04Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4ac8cffc-b1e1-4779-826a-c00384333c25"],"hasLease_ssim":["9e466f9a-e594-477b-99b7-309e6fddd0b1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["James C Logan"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The setting is western Chesterfield County, Virginia, whose population will grow from 14,700 to 32,700 in the next ten years. The author is the founding pastor of a United Methodist Church chartered in 1987 in Chesterfield. Two challenges provided the impetus for the project. One, finding a common religious practice among a diverse people, and two, expanding participation in the liturgy. Advent and Christmas Eve worship services were selected to meet both challenges. Through research, questionnaires, and interviews, the analysis asks four theological questions concerning revival of three different groups who have witnessed renewal in their midst: the leaders of the Great Awakenings, the current revived Methodist Church of Cuba, and five revived United Methodist congregations in Virginia.
