Cities are filled with diverse people, problems, needs, and resources.  Many urban teenagers struggle to survive amidst the diverse and challenging context of the cities.  Demographic changes will bring more culturally diverse groups of people into the communities and churches of cities.  Church youth programs that are rooted in universal and normative principles are inadequate to youth. The availability of guns, fueled by an ethos that it is an American right to bear arms, makes the land fertile for carnage of all sorts.  The African American community is the one community that seems to have more of its share of deaths by homicide.  The African American male is the one group that suffers from homicide in a staggering rate.  He is more likely to die from homicide between the ages of 15 and 44 than any other American group.
