A questionnaire was sent out to a large group of orthodox rabbinical courts and the data derived from this survey was used to determine the current practices. A program was then proposed, based on the author's personal knowledge and professional experience, to enhance the present procedure with a variety of experiences which followed the genuine traditions, yet were meaningful to the conversion candidate. In the second Quadrennium it received greater support from the Church.  Within the Southern New England Conference a strategy was put into place in 1983.  This project focuses on that strategy and raises questions about its relevance. To determine the impact of the strategy, visits are made to ethnic centers, a structured interview is held with Bishop George Bashore and questionnaires are sent to district superintendents, pastors and lay persons.
