Responding to internal and external review data, this project participated in overall program changes to the Religion/Christian Ministries program at WPC. Focus was given to the sophomore level internship courses to create an observation level experience designed to engage the Northwest culture. The author researched models of contextual theology in preparation for student experiences. Ultimately the project led to a successful grant proposal to the M. J. Working with terminal patients, the author created exploration sheets to go with each spiritual practice to guide the conversations between the patient and the chaplain in a hospice and palliative care setting. Using pilgrimage theology he created a series of prompts and accompanying quotations from the Bible and ancient and contemporary pilgrims to spur attentiveness and feed reflection on sacramental faith in every part of a traveler's story. The guide was tested in both cocurricular and curricular service learning. The author considered the feasibility of using a community poverty education model of interpersonal engagement as a ministry tool in a church setting. With artistic imagination, based on data gathered from surveys, focus groups and interviews, the author adapted the community model to develop a framework of engaged generosity. The author studied what parish practices encourage an ecumenical understanding of the faith.  A survey was used to gather data from full communion settings.  The author visited three of these ministry settings, conducted interviews and used case studies to determine which practices promote ecumenical understanding.  Friendship among local pastors, and ecumenical leadership among judicatory officials are formative. This project paper extensively references the 1990 'Common Statement: The One Mediator, The Saints, and Mary,' the outcome of the official United States Lutheran-Catholic dialogue.
