This study asks: what is the nature of the spiritual life of the clergy spouse? and it raises interesting questions and discussion about the unique clergy family and their 'pastoral' relationship. The author/researcher approached this project from a case study methodology involving thirteen participant clergy spouses. Data were collected through extensive literature review, questionnaires, a sanctuary exchange program and journaling. The data was gathered through a spiritual assessment tool and unstructured interviews with terminally-ill persons and their families. The author found that frequent interventions benefited the hospice patients through forming a trusting relationship with the hospice chaplain. This relationship enabled a deeper exploration of spiritual and religious need of the terminally ill.
