In order for the church, specifically the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the author's context, to assist believers in slowing down and developing spiritual disciplines of listening, prayer, and discernment, church leaders must first model these deeper relationships, resisting the temptation to have church life reflect the busyness that seems to have become the norm rather than the exception. The author accomplished this in telling the sustained stories of twelve saints and inviting spiritual practices each day for twelve weeks. In the case studies in three United Methodist congregations, participants engaged the material and answered questions before and after the study. When a group of laypersons participated in an educational project on worship, the group developed an increased understanding of the meaning, purpose, and practice of worship. They learned tools necessary to develop creative liturgies, and used these tools to participate with clergy and staff in planning and carrying out liturgy for corporate worship. The project implements and evaluates religious drama as a viable proclamation tool addressing an important congregational issue.  This thesis examines the issue of suffering using the book of Job.  It establishes a biblical and theological understanding of suffering and addresses the issue through an original drama, sermon and Bible study. Evaluation consists of questionnaires and interviews of drama participants, Bible study members and congregation. The main focus of the course is sermon preparation rather than the actual sermon itself.  In an effort to improve the enjoyment and productivity of the sermon preparation experience the course explores creativity and the creative process and uses methods and techniques designed to enhance the preacher's creativity. The paper explores the concept of creativity from biblical, theological and psychological perspectives. The long and significant faith tradition shows that the Psalms do indeed speak for us to God and to us from God.
