Through the analysis of First United Methodist Church, Atlantic, the author was able to identify key components that had once enabled and empowered this congregation to effectively be and do church. The researcher facilitated the work of the Kingsport District re-think team as they demonstrated the accomplishment of a district-wide strategy that equipped and empowered congregational leaders toward increasing the United Methodist witness. The three-year research focuses on the restarting experience of the Wellfleet United Methodist Church in Massachusetts, which employed strategies from both experiences, the planting of new churches and the turning around of troubled congregations.  The research describes the good, the bad, and the ugly of changing course in people's spiritual journeys and congregational lives. Upon arrival, he found that the congregation did not have any exposure or experience in mission. This case study will follow Sterling's journey as it utilized a seven-stage strategy: (1) finding the motive, (2) becoming grounded theologically and in faith, (3) gathering information, (4) initiating the process, (5) having effective communication, (6) official reporting, and (7) evaluation as needed.
