The author created a social media newsletter to assist pastoral care workers in ministering directly to their members and patients, Monday through Saturday. Using resources modeled on palliative care, leaders assist congregants through the stages of merger or closure.  An educational course for leaders participating in the Lay Servant Ministry program of the United Methodist Church was created. The research question is 'how can a congregation improve its ability to reach into the margins of the community?' The case study method was used to apply specific Wesleyan principles to a local congregation and evaluate their effectiveness for a congregation to minister in a community that is radically diverse. There are three issues to be explored in this study. First is to examine a congregation's process of reaching into a very diverse community. Second is to identify new methods and processes of reaching into a community that is rich in diversity. The toxic congregation is one that abuses power by attacking integrity and competence, withholding financial giving, making threats, physical harm, disrespect, resistance to new ideas, and extreme resistance to authority figures. God's providential care and the gift of discernment were very critical to the positive end result. This paper uses Walter Brueggemann's orientation, disorientation, new orientation schematic to define stages, resources, and actions to use with individuals, families, and groups before a crisis occurs, in the midst of crisis, and post-crisis.  The author has developed a model which uses core components of the Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) combined with psalms and other faith-based resources to form a protocol for a faithful intervention in a crisis situation.
