I instituted a ministry of hospitality at the Hosanna Methodist Church designed to assimilate newcomers. Being recognized by him as persons of value and God-given identity enabled these nonpersons to see themselves as beloved children of God. Since the church often has failed in welcoming the stranger: the homeless, homosexuals, and other marginalized people, a Bible Study was developed that emphasized the lost spiritual discipline of hospitality. The author studies the historical origins of the denomination and sister denominations to determine the ecology of the Church.  Community diversity and postmodernism influence this problem.  The author interviewed 68 individuals regarding reasons for leaving churches.  Sociological differences, varying stages of faith development, and possible misunderstanding give insight on the gap between pastor and congregants.  Rediscovering the communal foundation of the Eucharist may help.
