The author incorporated the stories of black Unitarian Universalists, past and present, using the story linking method found in African American Christian education. The curriculum was field tested by black members of a Unitarian Universalist congregation, black Unitarian Universalist religious professionals and a multi-racial group in a workshop at the 2016 Unitarian Universalist General Assembly. The participants in these field tests were surveyed. It argues that traditional models of church leadership such as servant leadership and shepherd leadership are highly dependent on a single person, the leader. Shared leadership informed by the wisdom of scripture uncovers the benefits of team leadership in various models of shared leadership both in the Old Testament and the New Testament. The project has particularly drawn insights from Paul's shared leadership through his co-workers and found contextual application for the leadership practices of Lavington United Church. As the number of churches and pastors increased, problems such as overpopulation of large churches and competition between ministers started to occur. Thus, a number of problems arose. The Prevenient, Justifying, and Sanctifying Grace of God calls humans into relationship with God. The practice of the spiritual disciplines is our response in faith to God's grace. Routine spiritual practice develops Christian discipleship and builds leadership. The curriculum was taught in two seven-week sessions, also taught as a weekend retreat, and the participants completed a pilgrimage to Mt. Angel Benedictine Abbey, Mt. Angel, OR to finish their spiritual experience. While individuals are eager to lead, the church lacks a clear succession plan or a unique process for mentoring and coaching women seminarians as pastors to lead the denomination. Research shows that effective use of rhetoric and communication empowers women leaders to become more effective in casting vision in leading women seminarians to take the next step. This final paper explores laughter as a way of seeing, comedy as a method of telling the truth, and salvation through a sense of humor. God instills human beings with laughter, gives a sense of humor for salvation, and gifts believers with Easter laughter. Using resources modeled on palliative care, leaders assist congregants through the stages of merger or closure.  An educational course for leaders participating in the Lay Servant Ministry program of the United Methodist Church was created. Through the analysis of First United Methodist Church, Atlantic, the author was able to identify key components that had once enabled and empowered this congregation to effectively be and do church.
