Using AA co-founder Bill Wilson as the paradigm, the author studied the phenomenon, termed 'metaconversion,' in twenty AA members, detailing characteristics occurring before and after the experience.  Biblical and historical personages were studied for evidences of the phenomenon.  An analysis is made of how the Twelve Steps of AA fosters metaconversion. The dissertation probes New Testament material, historical material, and current thinking on ministry, including interviews with fifteen ministers in Churches of Christ, to provide some theological thinking about ministry.  In spite of some lack of clarity, the ministers interviewed showed remarkable agreement that preaching was their defining role.  The study concluded that apostolicity, understood as witness to the word of Jesus Christ, but flexible enough to include administration and pastoral care, is an appropriate model for ministry in Churches of Christ."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717810207719424,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:24:12.374Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:29:35Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:04:37Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"30f6c2ad-7f1d-4636-95fd-baf6103e71f2","accessControl_ssim":["2bd4c7a3-4e27-4963-bd3d-003cc62d4c06"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The congregation as an evangelistic community: witnessing to the Chinese population of Fresno, California"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:29:34Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:33:25Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4743d531-5a1a-40f2-bfb5-2d6d1c184f54"],"hasLease_ssim":["1029565a-380e-4075-8d95-9c8b3fdd080b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Lewis R Rambo"],"year_tesim":["1991"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David H Purnomo"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Chinese Americans","Evangelistic work","Chinese--Missions"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The decade of the '90s appears to be a God-given opportunity for the Chinese church in terms of expansion and missions. At the time of its schism from the Roman Catholic church in the Philippines, it received tremendous support from the Filipino masses who saw it to be the embodiment of their religious and political aspirations.  In the Philippines, culture and religion, and church and society are inextricably intertwined.  The history of the Philippine Independent Church cannot be understood apart from the history of the Filipino people.  It is a history of continuous struggle for freedom, identity, and sovereignty. The Filipinos were colonized by Spain for over 300 years, by the United States for 50 years, and was occupied by Japan for 4 years. Throughout its colonial history, the Philippines experienced revolts and uprisings culminating in the Revolution of 1896-1898. The Philippine Independent Church became known as the lone tangible product of the Revolution of 1898 and symbol of the continuing struggle for freedom."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715317642952704,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:44:35.279Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":4,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"David H Purnomo","hits":1,"label":"David H Purnomo"},{"value":"Fred Vergara","hits":1,"label":"Fred Vergara"},{"value":"Joseph Crisp","hits":1,"label":"Joseph Crisp"},{"value":"Michael D Simpson","hits":1,"label":"Michael D Simpson"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Alcoholics Anonymous","hits":1,"label":"Alcoholics Anonymous"},{"value":"Chinese Americans","hits":1,"label":"Chinese Americans"},{"value":"Chinese--Missions","hits":1,"label":"Chinese--Missions"},{"value":"Church work","hits":1,"label":"Church work"},{"value":"Churches of Christ","hits":1,"label":"Churches of Christ"},{"value":"Conversion","hits":1,"label":"Conversion"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[{"value":"United States","hits":1,"label":"United States"}],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":4,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"San Francisco Theological Seminary","hits":4,"label":"San Francisco Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":4,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"1990","hits":1,"label":"1990"},{"value":"1991","hits":1,"label":"1991"},{"value":"1992","hits":1,"label":"1992"},{"value":"1995","hits":1,"label":"1995"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"San Francisco Theological Seminary","hits":4,"label":"San Francisco Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":4,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"San Francisco Theological Seminary","hits":4,"label":"San Francisco Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":4,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":4,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
