Statistical data was collected for over 600 churches in the Baltimore-Washington Conference of The United Methodist Church for the years 1974 to 2014. Graphs were generated that plotted average worship attendance for that range of years for each of those churches and, concurrently, the pastoral leadership of those churches. This project found a decrease in average worship attendance for the Conference, but also found evidence of vitality in many congregations and pastors. The author explored opportunities to bring renewed vitality to a congregation through fulfilling the baptismal promises. Training and resourcing pastors and key leaders in the mid-sized congregation will strengthen the mid-sized church. The first is the actual research presented in this paper. The chapers defining a mid-sized church, pastor as leader, and being a mid-sized church are a guide to current and future mid-sized pastors and congregations. The second ministry tool is a resource list that is available through the Virginia Annual Conference Mid-Sized Task Force. Fewer givers gave more: annual per capita giving increased 25%.  Responses to 3,034 congregational surveys indicated positive correlation between increased generosity and stewardship leadership, spiritual nurture, social justice involvement, and stewardship best practices.  Congregations where givers and revenue increased, with individual annual giving over {dollar}1,000, more often engaged all of these strategies.  Congregations with decreasing revenue were least likely to use any of them.
