The author contends that Paul's collaborative style can be a positive factor in promoting church revitalization.  A declining-membership suburban mainline-denomination congregation served as a case study for collaborative leadership in ministry.  The author, who was the pastor, served as a role model of a collaborative leader for co-workers who were in key lay leadership positions. Using the Wesley Foundation at UNC Chapel Hill and nearby University United Methodist Church, the author examined the history of campus ministry in this setting and researched the theology of mission and the United Methodist connection. Drawing on the theology of ordination in the Wesleyan and United Methodist traditions, the project engaged a small cohort group of ordained elders in the California-Pacific Annual Conference in a year-long conversation on the spiritual, theological and practical issues of leading the United Methodist Church in this period of transition.
