It reports the method most frequently associated with John Carver, and considers also secondary literature regarding boards of directors and leadership functions in the church. While there are many suitable forms of governance and leadership structure, the author looks favorably upon the policy based governance method and reports how the method came to be recommended for the congregation he serves as pastor. The governance model is dependent upon a clear distinction between ends and means. Board level leadership is to be primarily concerned with ends. The pastor, as staff leader, is primarily concerned with means toward ends accomplishment. Since the structure differs markedly from the former structure of a church council, program boards and task committees, the author reports how it is essential for training to occur."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799714632773926912,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:33:42.136Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:03:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:31:28Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1f15a45b-df8c-414f-9d00-f0c92146d0fc","accessControl_ssim":["4e0e9801-25b6-40f9-a001-73e8852eec57"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Training mobilized United States Army Reserve chaplains for deployment"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:03:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:03:26Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2fb554e9-7cc4-47e8-881a-6ddc11c9619b"],"hasLease_ssim":["27b1dbea-f9ab-4bca-88a8-b57db45b24e9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia"],"advisor_tesim":["Margaret A Krych"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"location_tesim":["New Jersey--Fort Dix"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Frederick H Schoenfeld"],"publisher_tesim":["Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia"],"subject_tesim":["United States--Army Reserve","Augustine, of Hippo, Saint, 354-430","Military chaplains"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This was a program of spiritual readiness training given to mobilized United States Army Reserve chaplains preparing for wartime deployment. During its 30 years of existence the church has received into fellowship only five individuals from the unchurched population. This project indicates that the church can be more effective in its outreach to the unchurched by developing multi-facit and contextualized ministries. The instrument used to collect data for the study are questionnaires, observation and interviews. The study reveals the following dynamics to be contributors to the church's inability to effectiveley minister to the unchurched: inadequate laity participation, ambiguity of mission and vision, outdated evangelistic methodology, under funded outreach ministry, insufficuent contextualized ministry and extremely low church involvement in the community. The project also reveals that a combination and flexibility of methods can produce improved results."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799714705723359232,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:34:51.707Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:49:45Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:33:55Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3eb0806e-6ef3-463b-9c41-a0c137006920","accessControl_ssim":["eed680a4-ba7c-4f22-ab47-3671cbe35575"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preaching as sacramental presence: the word incarnate as proclamations toward healing in a faith community"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:49:44Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:57:03Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["31575c6e-9128-4b4e-9209-91a3c9f57825"],"hasLease_ssim":["a2f6b24e-d115-40d4-aee9-2caddbc7c780"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia"],"advisor_tesim":["Margaret A Krych"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Marguerite Mims Rourk"],"publisher_tesim":["Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia"],"subject_tesim":["Lischer, Richard","Preaching","Bonhoeffer, Dietrich, 1906-1945","Word of God (Christian theology)","Schmemann, Alexander, 1921-1983"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Preachers mediate God's word to God's people for understanding their context on the world through the word which imparts God's reconciliation and peace to the faith community.
