Urban dwellers often face unique, challenging circumstances that require wisdom. The Book of Proverbs, often challenging to preach, is a rich source of God's wisdom, especially when understood in the context of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The author discusses the Deuteronomistic hope in a new obedience common to the OT, Paul and first-century Judaism; passages in Paul's letters that point to the rejection of continued law-observance as understood by Paul's contemporaries; possible reasons for that rejection; and Paul's use of the OT, the teaching of Jesus, and the Jerusalem church as reflective of Paul's new approach.
