Qualitative research conducted with eight officers reveals three common life experiences--emotionally rejecting parents, low self-esteem, and restricted affect--that issue in three common coping responses: attachment to television heroes, marriage, and careers in law enforcement. The project conducts interviews with 15 pastors in two focus groups and distributes a questionnaire completed by 426 laypersons.
