It uses family systems and object relations theory to support the research.  The project does not provide a comprehensive premarital counseling program but does present a model developed within an Episcopalian context.  The practical research is done by questionnaire-based interviews with twelve couples who experience the genogram as the primary framework for their four to six session premarital programs. The study was limited to those who had spent a minimum of five years in the parish after becoming ordained.  An attempt was made to look at roles, family dynamics, and relationships with the system of the denomination.  All subjects were mailed questionnaires, and a portion of the subjects were interviewed. A woman enters religious life with an identity, images and styles of communicating closeness or distance that were learned and internalized within the family of origin. These become conscious or unconsious means of identifying herself and her role as a religious and of relating intimately with others in a communal setting. Guest speakers and movies, as well as discussions, covered a general overview of the problem in New Hampshire and elsewhere, the various categories of abuse, means of prevention, and methods of treatment.  Special attention was given to the response of the clergy to child abuse--their legal responsibility to report it, their moral responsibility to accept it, and their need to deal with their own psychological reaction to it. This project attempts to bring to the forefront the realities of incest by reviewing some statistical information and published literature on incest within a feminist framework.  It also presents the voices of seventeen young women who were incest victims.  A profile of the incestuous family based on the seventeen testimonies is offered in the form of a case study which is written in the voice of the victim/survivor and has a Christian slant. Through the administration of a questionnaire, a survey of the literature, meetings with members of the hospital staff and volunteers who interviewed patients, nine issues of concern surfaced and were acted upon by the pastoral care staff. The results from the project revealed a bell-shaped pattern of change.
