The first phase of the project involved research to identify the competencies essential to leading sermon-based small groups in the Cornerstone Community Church context for the purpose of disipleship. The research included extensive reading as well as interviewing multiple ministry leaders experienced in the field of sermon-based small groups. The second phase of the project synthesized the research to produce a curriculum designed to equip small group leaders with the competencies identified. In the final phase of the project selected small group leaders from Cornerstone Community Church were equipped with the essential competencies to lead sermon-based small groups. The first step in the process if equipping selected members with these skills was to research the topics of prayer and evangelism as well as the relationship between them. From this research, the project director identified essential evengelistic prayer skills and developed a seminar curriculum to teach these skills. Following the Ministry Skills Enhancement Model, the project director enhanced his development and communication of sermon applications related to biblical truths proclaimed within each sermon. The project focus was to ensure members and attendees of Oak Park Baptist Church, Algiers, Louisiana, understand the biblical text and how it applies to their walk with Christ. The project will: (1) research the subject of the sermon application; (2) develop a series of expository sermons applying the knowledge gathered; (3) preach a sermon series to those attending Oak Park Baptist Church, Algiers, Louisiana; and (4) evaluate the effectiveness of the sermon application by using a sermon evaluation team. The project director developed a training workshop utilizing input and research from experts in small group ministry. The first phase of the project involved research in effective small group ministry. Various books, articles, and web resources aided research. The second phase included the development of lesson plans for a five-session workshop with evaluation forms, tests, PowerPoint, and homework assignments. The five sessions covered clarifying the need of small groups, understanding small group dynamics, developing leaders, ministry multiplication, and insight into leading effective small groups. The final phase of the project involved the implementation of the workshop sessions and assignments. The project director equipped 15 selected leaders of First Baptist Church in essential truths of small group effectiveness.
