To promote understanding and reconciliation, some of the churches in the town of Ledyard invited tribal members to participate in an ecumenical, cross-cultural vacation Bible school.  The morning children's program used commercial curricula, but the evening program for all ages focused on the theme of 'Who is my neighbor?' The retreat would teach the mission team members about Waterbury and orient them for the upcoming week of day camp.  As a result of the project the Waterbury Baptist Ministries church members' self esteem increased and their level of hopelessness decreased, thus finding their place of service in the church.
