A telephone survey solicits data from 169 churches, and a random sample of 30 churches are personally interviewed using an extended survey instrument.  The project subjects responses to exploratory and inferential analyses, using the multiple and stepwise regressions. This thesis was tested through a survey of 106 international students at the University of Texas.  Survey items were drawn from writings by authorities from each of the major religions on the subject of prayer.  Buddhist, Catholic, and Hindu students conformed to official profiles for less than one-third of the measured items, suggesting greater religious independence.
