The project included research of the spiritual discipline of prayer and contemporary spiritual formation methodologies.  This research led to the design, administration, and evaluation of training sessions with the selected leaders.  Training included seven weekly didactic sessions on various dimensions of individual and corporate prayer, with additional assignments between sessions.  Participants assessed assigned readings  and maintained a journal throughout the process with assigned entries germane to the subject matter.  An eighth and final session assessed the participants' mastery of the subject matter and summarized the project material. The intent of this process was to equip the participants to lead the embryonic congregation in the arena of prayer, fostering a culture in which prayer is understood, valued, and practiced. The list resulting from this research became the basis for developing a strategy for making disciples for First Baptist Church, Wauchula.  Upon completion, the strategy was approved by church staff and the strategy-development team. They are not dead because both husbands and wives still live together; they are not separated or divorced.  The marriage is not alive either because the union has become sour, bitter, and burdensome.  In the search to find out how best to reverse this trend, communication skills stand out as one solution.  The project is a research into literature from leading authorities in both secular and religious communities on communication skills with particular reference to strengthening marital relationships.  Care was taken in the selection of materials to assure sound biblical foundation.  The materials selected were used to develop lesson plans for training couples in communication that leads to relationship building. The purpose of this project was to train a select group of married couples of Shepherdhill Baptist Church, Lagos, Nigeria in communication skills to strengthen marriage. The training sessions focused on developing participants in communication that builds up relationships with the overall goal of producing a healthy marital relationship that leads to security and stability of Christian homes. The focus of the project is on verbal, face-to-face, communication between couples.  Hence, the discussions during the seminars emphasized components of communication such as listening, self disclosure, and transparency.  As the project progressed, it became obvious that participants, though vast in Bible knowledge, pay very little attention to applying biblical principles to their lifestyle. This meant that the discipleship programs which many of the participants attended and their personal Bible studies emphasized head knowledge rather than heart knowledge.  What changes people is the application of Bible principles to everyday life, not just the hearing of the word, but the doing of the word.  Therefore, the project emphasized application rather than theoretical knowledge of the Bible to achieve the desired goal.  As a result of this finding, couples' ministry has been fully established in the church with monthly activities. The project director researched demographics, interviewed national pastors and international missionaries, studied cultural nuances, and accumulated other data in order to understand the cultural and religious context in which a new church would be planted. From this collected data, the project director developed a strategy that involved the usage of a team approach to planting a new church. The International Mission Board regional leadership for Brazil decided to delay any action on the strategy developed for this project because of logistical problems related to the fact that the region was in the midst of a major transition. The Eastern and Western South America Regions were joined to form the South American Region. Using the equipping program model, the project included the development of a workshop which addressed the following topics: interpreting the mission and vision of the church; conducting a SWOT analysis; developing and prioritizing objectives; developing, implementing, and evaluating strategies; and facilitating group decision making.  Workshop participants demonstrated an increased understanding of strategy planning. The sessions addressed the following issues: conflict by definition, identifying the levels of conflict, understanding the dangers of conflict, conflict management styles, appropriate conflict management skills, and reconciliation.
