Modifications were made each year for each group.  There was a concern that the experience be more than a course on the history, polity, doctrine, or theology of Methodism.  Instead of offering a class on information about Christ and Christianity, a process of Christian formation was sought.  Mutual accountability of the covenant group was combined with instruction on the acts of compassion, justice, worship, and devotion, in the atmosphere of faith sharing-telling the stories of our faith. Participants wrote a group covenant, met for 18 weeks for sharing, prayer, and instruction, and used the Sunday Lectionary for daily prayer, meditation, and preparation for Christian living. In this DMin project a Church of Ireland bishop examines the long-term historical background to such events under four main headings of politics, economics, religion and education. Replies from 32 (80 percent) churches indicate that most are trying to survive.  A weekend workshop, consisting of five sessions, was planned, offering a study from an Episcopal perspective of the gifts and ministry of the Holy Spirit. The workshop attempted to clear some of the doubts and fears concerning spiritual renewals in the congregations.  Studies are made of the primary resources and the theological writings of early 19th and 20th century Anglican authors to the present. Initiating the project was a survey of a congregation's perception of faith.  Results of the survey reflected the need of Baptists to address the place of experience after the 'born again' event, a lack of discipline, and the influence others have on an individual's spiritual growth.  At the end of the project a survey was taken that showed Southern Baptists can develop an understanding of spirituality as journey.
