The methodology is feminist and therefore attempts to break free from traditional understandings of research. The focus of the research is on the women's experience of ministry and supervision and their understanding of spirituality and their vision of ministry with women.  The insights from this study include the effect of patriarchal structures on women, the lack of skills of critical analysis to identify patriarchal reality, the minimal support and nurture for feminists' spirituality, and the limited provision of opportunity to discuss theology from a feminist perspective. A community service model was developed to help promote student volunteering, blood drives, and mission by the local church. A questionnaire was sent to United Methodist chaplains who had retired between the years 1975-1980 with a high level of response.  The instrument sought information about the past life pattern of the respondent and whether the person desired to return to ministry and was successful. Questions were raised concerning difficulties experienced in placement and in the role the Commission of Chaplains and Related Ministries of the UMC played in the process.  Results were tabulated and discussed."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Boston University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["2d58bd09-76d0-4970-b257-d55229e0173e"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717305102368768,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:16:10.668Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:19:46Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:10:47Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"00005412-ecb0-4678-a490-2604e83602ce","accessControl_ssim":["f3bccbdc-da38-4f58-b8fc-48d99d61d2ec"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Lay leadership within a local church: the informal decision makers"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:19:45Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:07:21Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f9db402f-eadd-4056-a5f7-64a8b4c2b0e2"],"hasLease_ssim":["028788a5-2013-441b-a32e-19efbc31b9a1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Boston University"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert L Treese","James W Fraser"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["I Mark Conner"],"keyword_tesim":["Relation (Theology)"],"publisher_tesim":["Boston University School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["St Matthew's United Methodist Church (Acton, Mass)","Church work","Congregations","Leadership--Religious aspects","Methodist Church","Decision making","Laity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The project was designed to find out who makes decisions in a local congregation by examining the correlation between perceived and official lay leadership at the St Matthew's UMC of Acton, Massachusetts. Questionnaires describing situations which could occur at any church were sent to members of the congregation.  They were asked to rank up to three members with whom they would discuss the situation and to offer the reasons for their choices.  The results of the data collected show that there was an informal group of individuals who were perceived to be the decision makers.  Such an informal grouping of decision makers presents problems for the management of a church and raises questions concerning the theological foundations for the organization and structure of the local church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Boston University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["2d58bd09-76d0-4970-b257-d55229e0173e"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716972210946048,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:10:53.198Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":8,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"E William Mathews","hits":1,"label":"E William Mathews"},{"value":"Ezra Everett","hits":1,"label":"Ezra Everett"},{"value":"Gerald L Tyer","hits":1,"label":"Gerald L Tyer"},{"value":"I Mark Conner","hits":1,"label":"I Mark Conner"},{"value":"Jeffrey Ellsworth Rhodes","hits":1,"label":"Jeffrey Ellsworth Rhodes"},{"value":"John M Grenfell","hits":1,"label":"John M Grenfell"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[{"value":"Congregations--Internal conflict","hits":1,"label":"Congregations--Internal conflict"},{"value":"Relation (Theology)","hits":1,"label":"Relation (Theology)"}],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Church work","hits":4,"label":"Church work"},{"value":"Laity","hits":3,"label":"Laity"},{"value":"Clergy","hits":2,"label":"Clergy"},{"value":"Congregations","hits":2,"label":"Congregations"},{"value":"Methodist Church","hits":2,"label":"Methodist Church"},{"value":"Alban Institute","hits":1,"label":"Alban Institute"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":8,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Boston University School of Theology","hits":8,"label":"Boston University School of Theology"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":8,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"1983","hits":4,"label":"1983"},{"value":"1982","hits":3,"label":"1982"},{"value":"1985","hits":1,"label":"1985"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Boston University","hits":8,"label":"Boston University"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":8,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Boston University","hits":8,"label":"Boston University"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":8,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":8,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
